Dell achieves global share of 19,3% in Q2 

Dell reported revenue of $14,1bn for the second quarter of fiscal year 2007, an increase of 5% year-over-year. Operating income was $605m, or 4,3% of revenue, which includes $119m of stock-based compensation. The company priced aggressively in a slower market, resulting in operating income which was lower than its May expectations on similar revenue. As a result, EPS for the quarter finished at 22 cents.

HP releases Q3 financial results 

HP today announced financial results for its third fiscal quarter ended 31 July, with net revenue of $21,9bn, representing growth of 5% year-over-year, or 6% when adjusted for the effects of currency. GAAP operating profit was $1,5bn and GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) were $0,48 per share, up from $0,03 in the prior year period. GAAP financial information for the third quarter 2005 reflects a tax adjustment resulting from HP's decision to repatriate $14,5bn in cash from foreign earnings.

OpenOffice.org announces version 1.1.2 of Open Source suite 

The OpenOffice.org organisation has announced the immediate availability of the new 1.1.2 version of the Open Source office suite, codenamed Hakone. The organisation says the new version is initially available on the Windows (98/ME/NT/2000/XP), GNU/Linux (X86 and PowerPC) and Solaris (Sparc and X86) platforms.

Starbucks, the USA coffee giant, is making its second attempt at launching wireless high-speed Internet connections to its coffee-drinking customers. Last year Starbucks joined forces with Mobile Star Network but Mobile Star pulled the plug shortly afterwards.
