CA has acquired privately-held XOsoft, a provider of continuous application availability solutions that minimise application downtime and accelerate time to recovery. The acquisition is claimed to enable CA to offer a complete recovery management solution that allows customers to minimise the risk of data loss, reduce the time spent on back-ups and expedite recovery of critical business services.

XOsofts products are designed to provide uninterrupted access to all types of file and application servers - including Windows Servers, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft IIS and Oracle - and to allow instantaneous recovery from any type of disaster.

CA plans to integrate XOsofts products with BrightStor ARCserve Backup to deliver a complete solution for protecting and recovering critical applications. Using XOsofts patented technology, CA also will develop a next-generation information protection platform to unify and simplify recovery operations.

IT organisations need to ensure the availability and recoverability of e-mail, database and other business applications across their storage infrastructure, says Sagaran Naidoo, storage business technologist for CA SA. With this acquisition, CA is meeting customers requirements for protecting, securing and quickly recovering critical applications and information from any location across the enterprise.
