Sentech, which was also responsible for the installation, will be controlling and maintaining the Pretoria transmitter. Pretoria listeners can enjoy a high-quality broadcast on 106MHz, comments Vaughan Taylor, who is a senior key account manager at Sentech.
The broadcast distributor was also responsible for the installation of 702s new Johannesburg transmitter (located at the Sentech Tower) from which the station has been broadcasting since July 18. The radio station will, however, remain on 702kHz (in the medium wave band) until mid-2007. The 540kHz transmitter will be shut down at the end of this month.
To enable 702 to reach its target market on FM in the greater Johannesburg area, Sentech has, over the last seven months, spent about R3m on new equipment including FM transmitters, antenna combining equipment and power reticulation systems.
