MicroStrategy, a global provider of business intelligence (BI) software, has opened a full-service office in Johannesburg in conjunction with its EMEA expansion plans. The company recently opened several other offices in Poland, Denmark, Sweden, and Belgium.

MicroStrategy SA will offer pre-sales, sales, and post-sales consulting and implementation services. Aiming to build on its current base of customers in the region, MicroStrategy plans to engage in targeted business development activities to enhance awareness of MicroStrategy with key prospects and partners. Large companies, such as Spoornet, Nampak and Foschini, are already customers of MicroStrategy SA.

You cannot roll out BI across multiple divisions and multiple business processes unless the toolset you are deploying has the architecture to scale accordingly, says Andrew Brown, Nampak business systems manager for business intelligence. MicroStrategy provides exactly that. There are only a few solution providers in the enterprise side of the BI market - and we are happy that we chose the right one.

SA has a strong economy, a mature IT market, and a keen awareness of the benefits of BI technology, says MicroStrategy SA country manager, Sean Wainer. The continued growth of the SA IT market has encouraged us to strengthen our presence here. Our key targets include the retail, financial services, telecom and pharmaceutical sectors, which we expect to be strong markets for business intelligence.

MicroStrategy says that it offers all five styles of business intelligence advanced and predictive analysis, OLAP analysis, scorecards and dashboards, enterprise reporting, and alerts and pro-active notification on a single, unified platform. The five styles of BI can be provided on a modular basis or as a comprehensive integrated solution, depending on the requirements of the business, Wainer says.
