iBurst has concluded an agreement with McAfee to provide the McAfee VirusScan range of products to iBurst subscribers.

PC Magazine rates McAfee VirusScan 2006 as its top-rated anti-virus application, with both Microsoft and Linux platforms supported.

The wireless broadband providers 24 000 customers will have the option of entering into a 12-month iBurst PC Security Suite subscription at the rate of R12 per month for virus protection, anti-spyware and a desktop firewall.

iBurst is being proactive by encouraging subscribers to take their PC and Internet security seriously and not to avoid the issue by believing it can never happen to them, says Alan Knott-Craig, iBurst MD.

The seriousness with which we should view the integrity of our computers is highlighted when one remembers that the entire productive output of todays information society workers is located on their hard drives, Knott-Craig adds.

Securing your desktop is an ongoing task because new threats continue to appear and known threats do not disappear. Once the security suite is downloaded and installed, subscribers receive automatic updates as new threats are released, he continues.

The iBurst Security Suite is designed to protect subscribers from receiving viruses through e-mail and through the Web, as well as unauthorised access of their machines from the Internet. Without this protection, iBurst customers stand the risk of having their machines infected, which typically leads to a high utilisation of their Internet bandwidth, resulting in their bandwidth cap being used up.
