Juniper Networks says that it has teamed with HP to simplify the management of advanced IPTV and multi-play service networks.

Using Juniper Networks E-, M- and T-series routing platforms and security solutions with HP OpenView OSS software, the two companies have created a joint solution that is designed to provide customers with end-to-end management of IPTV networks, including fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security (FCAPS).

The combined solution aims to deliver advanced real-time capabilities that enable the network to dynamically adjust to accommodate changing service types, network capacity and customer demands.

In addition to the joint solution, the two companies have collaborated on two separate IPTV customer solution centres, one in HPs Telecom Solution Centre in Richardson, Texas, and the other in Junipers facility in Westford, Mass.

Both facilities include Juniper routing and security platforms and HP OpenView OSS network and service management software as part of a complete IPTV test environment, the companies say. The customer solution centres are linked using Juniper Networks security appliances, aiming to allow customers access to a wider range of equipment and larger scale network for testing and demonstration.

Juniper Networks and HP say that they will provide consulting and integration services to help customers deploy a comprehensive IPTV solution.

As outlined in our open IPTV and multi-play Initiative, Juniper is committed to working with technology suppliers to provide customisable networks that enable our customers to deploy advanced services, says Shailesh Shukla, vice-president of service provider marketing and partnerships, Juniper Networks.

Using standards-based interfaces, Juniper Networks routers and HP OpenView OSS software are designed to exchange detailed network, application and customer information in real time, aiming to give network operators knowledge of their network performance. The solution can also reduce operational costs by providing faster trouble-shooting with real-time fault detection and root cause analysis, the companies say.

HP OpenView OSS software is designed to furnish a complete picture of the IPTV environment, including customer premise equipment, edge and core network, and head-end equipment, including port activation and utilisation levels.

The software is also designed to activate all forms of multi-play services, monitor performance, diagnose and predict problems, and collect usage information across a multi-vendor network.
