Intel has introduced vPro technology, a package of hardware and software that is claimed to mark a major change in what businesses can expect from their PCs, and to provide IT workers with higher levels of computing performance and more proactive control of security and costs.

Intel claims that early trials with select Fortune 500 companies showed an average potential cost saving of 40%.

Major computer makers around the world have begun introducing desktop PCs with  vPro technology for the mainstream business market, with more systems expected to be available in the coming weeks and months from all manufacturers.

Very simply, vPro is a change of course in the way businesses and IT managers view and use PCs, says Robert Crooke, vice-president and GM of Intels business client group. We are packing features that address what plagues businesses most - security threats, cost of ownership, resource allocation, asset management and uptime - into a single platform.

The Intel Core 2 Duo processor is at the heart of Intel vPro technology. It is claimed to deliver up to a 40% increase in performance, and a 40% increase in energy efficiency.
