Absa Electronic Banking, together with its Self Service Channel (SSC), claims that it now makes easy access to prepaid electricity a reality for SA's people.

Absa has successfully concluded negotiations with Eskom to vend prepaid electricity tokens via the Absa ATM network.

Says Venete Klein, Absa executive director: retail delivery (sales and service): "Tokens will enable individuals to recharge their prepaid Eskom meters via an Absa ATM. This service will be available from 17 September to both Absa and non-Absa customers."

The customer inserts his card into the ATM and selects 'Other Transactions' and 'Prepaid'. Once Eskom has been selected as the network, the customer is prompted to enter his Eskom meter number.

The customer then selects 'Purchase a Voucher' and is prompted to enter an amount between R20 and R4000. Once the 'Select from Account' account has been entered, a confirmation screen will be displayed.

The transaction will be processed on the customer's selection of 'Yes'. Should the transaction be unsuccessful due to insufficient funds in the accountholder's account, the customer will be requested to try again later.

A voucher is printed when the transaction is successful and displays an activation code to be entered into the Eskom meter.

Individuals can also reprint vouchers with the activation code that was last purchased at any Absa Self-service terminal or at any linked TSS/Eskom system.
