Channel Data, specialist distributor of storage and network products, has appointed data management specialist, Bytes Technology, as an Iron Mountain Digital partner and reseller. Iron Mountain Digital is one of the world's largest providers of data back-up and recovery and archiving software as a service.

Peter Sykes, Channel Datas product manager, says: Bytes Technology is a formidable ICT partner, which has a broad customer base in both private and public sector enterprises. Its large national footprint, together with our long-standing relationship, made it a natural move to pursue a partnership on the Iron Mountain Digital product range.

Says Bytes Technologys storage division director, Mike Broderick: Bytes Technology Storage is focused on providing enterprise-class data management solutions to our clients. We already have a comprehensive suite of data protection products for the Data Center, including rapid data and system restore solutions and services. However, we identified a need for comprehensive back-up and, importantly, restore for the end-user computing environment.

I immediately recognised that the Iron Mountain Connected range of products is probably the only range that addresses all of our clients wish lists. In spite of corporate policies regarding data location and back-up, many users still have a huge amount of information storage on laptops and desktops. We have daily occurrences of user data being lost through failure, theft, damage etc and the corporate response is usually tough luck, policy states that we only back-up the servers.

In addition to marketing and reselling the products to customers, Bytes Technology will be concluding an internal roll-out of the Iron Mountain Connected PC Backup solution to protect its own business data residing on laptops.

Concludes Sykes: "The protection and security of data stored on widely distributed PC desktops and laptops is fast becoming a key priority for many CIOs and risk managers.
