Rectron has announced the immediate availability of Transcend Information's 2GB 80X miniSD, a flash memory card which, it says, is optimised for high-specification cellular phones.

With the 80X miniSD, cellphone users can now save pictures, MP3 music, or MPEG 4 video clips all onto memory card, which can then be used in a digital audio player, digital camera, smart phone or PDA, Rectron adds.

Transcends miniSD cards have all the features and performance of standard SD cards but are less than half the size they are therefore ideal for the next generation of multimedia cell phones and mobile devices, which incorporate miniSD card slots into their design, says Michael Hann, business manager at Rectron.

 The 80X miniSD card is the perfect storage accessory for those users that use their cellphone specifications to the full. Also, as the memory card can be used in standard SD card slots, data, video and other information can be transferred easily from one device to another, he adds.

80X miniSD features are said to include:
* Approximately 40% of the size of a standard SD Card, but with the same features and performance;
* A miniSD adapter allows it to be used in standard SD Card slots;
* Adoption of original SLC NAND flash chips; and
* Compliant with the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI) portable device.
