IDtek has been awarded a contract by the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) to install its biometric identity control technology in the restricted personnel areas of SA's largest airport, Johannesburg International.

SAGEM's fingerprint biometric technology will be used to authenticate the identity of more than 600 airport employees with access to secure areas of the airports Air Traffic Navigation Control Department.

Under the terms of the contract, IDtek is scheduled to begin installation of its biometric technology immediately. The installed biometric technology is intended to enforce security and increase physical access control reliability while minimising personnel access to restricted working areas of the airport. The airport security systems are designed to leverage SAGEM's core strengths in fingerprint biometric recognition technology and data encryption.

The equipment to be installed is SAGEM Morpho, which supports many state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies throughout SA.

Some of the larger SAGEM clients are the FBI, Interpol and the United Nations. In SA, SAGEM references include SAPS, as well as Social Services, where its systems pay some 3m pensions every month.
