Following the expansion of its EMEA operations last month, with the launch of a local office, Expand Networks, a supplier of application acceleration over the wide area network (WAN) has announced the deployment of its Compass platform at Corobrik.

The multi-service Compass platform aims to support Corobriks migration from JD Edwards thin client servers to Web-based applications to its sites across SA, using its low speed wide area network.

Corobrik has an SA distribution network with over forty branch offices and over two thousand employees. The company is highly reliant on its IT infrastructure to co-ordinate and implement complex building projects, and realised that a move to Web-based applications was essential to improve productivity and ensure the future growth and competitiveness of the business.

Although a migration project served the best interests of the business, it also introduced a new set of challenges. The strain that would be placed on the WAN posed a problem to application performance for remote users which would be compounded further as the companys plans included moving all remaining applications to Web-based solutions. The cost of upgrading WAN bandwidth was too prohibitive to be a real consideration in SA.

To satisfy its IT requirements and enable this key business driver, Corobrik needed a solution that was cost-effective, straightforward to implement, and future-proofed to enable seamless migration to other types of network architectures. Dimension Data SA, a local Expand channel partner, recommended and deployed Expand Accelerators, aiming to ensure optimal network performance, user productivity and business continuity.

Expands Compass platform is said to be a key enabler of Web-based application migration projects, being designed to allow businesses to reap the full benefits of Web services, by accelerating the performance of the Web applications to encourage user adoption and satisfaction, while simultaneously removing the cost of upgrading WAN links, the company says.
