Imation, a worldwide supplier of removable data storage media, has announced the availability of its first recordable HD DVD media. Imation HD DVD and Imation Blu-ray media aim to provide businesses of all sizes with a high-capacity solution for managing their growing quantity of critical data storage.

Available in single-layer, Imation HD DVD can store up to 15GB of digital files - three times the capacity of standard DVDs. They are ideal for reliable data and image storage, including medical and government imaging, photography, videography, as well as high definition video recording, the company says.

"Imation understands the ever-growing storage needs of today's businesses and the need for a wide-range of innovative solutions to meet those needs," says Imation SA sales manager, Juan David Fajardo. "Today's release of Imation HD DVD provides businesses with a format choice for their high definition recording needs and demonstrates Imation's continued commitment to offer a variety of quality options to store and transfer critical data."

Imation's release of HD DVD comes at a time when businesses are producing more data than ever before. Data storage requirements are expected to triple by the end of the decade with e-mail proliferation, more stringent compliance requirements, and businesses continuing to produce more multimedia content that needs to be stored in a digital environment.

Imation HD DVD media, similar to Imation Blu-ray discs, are produced with a protective coating that is designed to provide scratch-resistance, anti-static dust resistance, and smear-resistance, and to ensure a more durable and protected media surface. For even greater storage, Imation says that it will also manufacture double-layer HD DVD later this year, delivering 30GB of capacity on a single disc - six times the capacity of standard DVD discs.
