Following the launch of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS earlier this month, Canonical has announced that Panda Software DesktopSecure for Linux is now available to all users of Ubuntu 6.06. The solution aims to combine Panda's latest security suite and Ubuntu's interface, to give all users the opportunity to safely and easily browse, shop and interact over the Web.

Panda DesktopSecure is a specific security solution for Linux workstations, designed to integrate anti-malware and firewall technologies. With this product, Panda Software is intending to collaborate with the Linux community, by providing easy-to-use and effective security tools. The complete solution can be managed from a powerful graphic console, the company says. The version of DesktopSecure available to users of Ubuntu 6.06 includes services and updates for three months.

Our aim is to make simple and effective security tools, such as Desktop Secure for Linux, available to users to protect the integrity of their systems. For this reason, our collaboration with Ubuntu, is a priority for us, as it allows us to reach a sizeable section of this operating system user community, explains Pedro Bustamante, marketing director at Panda Software.

Using the Ubuntu Add/Remove Programs feature, users can choose to install a wide variety of applications, he adds. This announcement aims to continue the drive to ensure that Ubuntu gives real choice and real flexibility, as well as an easy to use interface that everyone can use.

As a part of our programme to deliver choice of the very best applications available, we have worked closely with Panda Software, and, in a very short time, we have been able to make the Panda DesktopSecure available for Ubuntu users, says Malcolm Yates, partner and ISV manager at Canonical.
