Hand in hand with the dramatic global increase in data storage requirements is the growing demand for security. This trend has resulted in a number of recent mergers and acquisitions, among them security company Symantec's acquisition of storage vendor, Veritas.

Vendors have long recognised the synergy between storage and security, says Adrian Hollier, storage product manager for ICT distributor, Comztek. Resellers should follow suit and link the two in their marketing efforts. It makes good business sense to focus on both areas as the two go hand in hand.

Only when companies consider both security and storage together can they guarantee that they are backing up and storing only data as opposed to a combination of information with spam, viruses and other non-corporate data.

Comztek has recently been appointed one of only two Symantec VAD + partners. This status, the highest partner category for Symantec distributors, means that Comztek can expand its range to include not only traditional security products, but Symantecs availability products as well. These include Symantecs back-up, storage management, archive and compliance solutions formerly the Veritas product range.

Our resellers know us as a Symantec security distributor. Now they have a one-stop shop for all their security and storage needs, says Hollier. The change will drive extra revenue for Comztek, as we can now compete head on in a market previously serviced only by traditional storage players.
