The focus of the Softex seminar will be on sectors in which the organisers believe Brazil and SA can collaborate. These include telecommunications, open source software initiatives, digital inclusion and call centres.
The telecommunications presentation is being handled by CPqD, the former Brazilian government R&D Centre for telecommunications. The company is now an independent R&D foundation. The presentation will deal with the lessons learned in the Brazilian privatisation process, how it evolved afterwards, and the role of R&D.
The president of the state-owned company, Serpro, is expected to deliver an open source software initiatives presentation. He will discuss the Brazilian e-Gov programme, as well as other federal government-sponsored initiatives in the area of digital inclusion.
In the area of software engineering process and quality improvement, Softex will present what is known as the MPS-Br initiative. This is a creative way to foster process and quality improvement through government purchases, however focusing on the SME sector.
Softex seminar organiser, Jose Cusnir, will discuss the qualifications of the Brazilian software and services industry as a potential partner for SA's IT companies
The trade mission is being organized by the Brazilian governments Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brasil).
