HP says that it has extended the boundaries of traditional entry-level workstation computing with the introduction of a high-performance, low-cost workstation featuring the latest Intel processors.

Engineered for innovators, the HP xw4400 Workstation features the Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processor and 975X Express chipset, aiming for greater performance and increased business productivity. The combination of powerful Intel processors and HP innovation is said to make the xw4400 ideal for meeting the ever-increasing computing demands of engineers, designers, video editors and power users all at an affordable price.

Our customers have an insatiable demand for performance. The xw4400 offers breakthrough performance over previous system architectures, says Ivan Barnard, workstation product manager, Personal Systems Group at HP.

Designed to deliver the performance and flexibility that users in SMEs, enterprises, and OEM business need, the xw4400 comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Windows 32-bit or x64, along with a wide range of graphics, memory, and storage options (including new Serial Attached SCSI hard drives), Barnard says. The xw4400 will also be Windows Vista Capable at launch, and will offer preloaded Red Hat Enterprise Linux later this fall, Barnard adds.

For mechanical CAD engineers, architectural engineers, and architects, the xw4400 aims to provide a reliable, fully supported workstation solution at prices starting below R9 999.
