Secure Data yesterday announced the availability of Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005, the latest version of the consumer anti-virus product.

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 now features additional privacy, reliability, and security functionality for PCs and home networks, the company says.

Capabilities such as Wi-Fi intrusion detection, anti-phishing, spyware removal, and the ability to manage multiple PCs within the network make PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 an even more comprehensive security solution for home and small office/home office (SoHo) networks, the company claims.

The new Home Network Control feature in PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 aims to allow users to easily configure, update, and manage the security of all the PCs within the home network through a single remote, password-protected interface (on the network).

The Wi-Fi Intrusion Detection feature is claimed to be the first in the desktop anti-virus industry to alert home users when an unknown guest enters their wireless network, to keep out bandwidth stealers and unwanted intruders.

The additional vulnerability assessment function automatically scans all computers for operating system and browser vulnerabilities, and provides one-click access to patch those vulnerabilities, the company says.

New anti-phishing software, built into PC-cillin Internet Security 2005, is designed to help to protect home users against this increasingly prevalent type of malicious junk e-mail, aimed at fooling users into surrendering personal and financial information by using authentic-looking e-mails and Web sites.

By blocking the transmission of outbound data to known phishing-related sites, users are protected before they even realise that they are in danger, the company claims.

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 features are said to include improved spyware protection to help prevent unwanted monitoring of user activities or theft of personal information, an improved personal firewall component to protect users from hackers and intruders, and improved spam and URL filters to help block unsolicited junk e-mail, and to help users limit access to inappropriate Web sites.

The Outbreak Alert System provides early warnings of new threats to users, and virus pattern files can be automatically updated for the latest protection, the company concludes.
