Riaan Ferreira, senior support engineer at Datacentrix, says the HP Wireless Enterprise Access Point 520wl and Wireless Enterprise Access Point 420 solutions provide a broad range of performance options, and were the technologies of choice for St Albans College.
Datacentrix installed the HP Wireless Enterprise Access Point 520wl solutions in the school buildings and Wireless Access Point 420 access points at student and staff boarding houses, providing secure mobility between mixed 802.11b/g environments, he says.
Says Dawie Venter, IT manager at St Albans: Computer-based training is central to the daily lives of students and staff at St Albans College, and world-class access to the corporate network is vital.
At the beginning of 2004, St Albans College took a strategic decision to standardise its network on HP. The school was one of the first to embark on a wireless network four years ago, and this year we required a technology refresh. We needed more control and performance, and HP ProCurve, with Datacentrix expertise, provided just that," says Venter.
He adds that St Albans Colleges long-standing relationship with Datacentrix, as well as its proven expertise in wireless networking and HP technologies, made its appointment a logical choice.
The school reportedly aims to expand the use of notebooks to enable new instructional opportunities for students and more productive work methods for teachers and administrators.
