Sam's Soapbox: Off with his head?

So, I see PeopleSoft CEO Craig Conway got the boot on Friday. Opinion seems to be divided as to exactly why, however.

According to the IDG story that we are running in this issue, the board was behind him in his decision to reject Oracles hostile takeover bids, and the companys revenue is up.

PeopleSoft is quoted as saying that the board has lost faith in him and his ability to lead the company effectively.

What I suspect may be the real reason is alluded to, but not expanded upon: the JD Edwards take-over.

Word has been doing the rounds for some time now that JDE's customers are not happy at the way in which PeopleSoft is treating them, and are jumping ship, to the likes of Oracle, as a result.

In any event, Larry and co must be doing the dance of joy (to misquote Belki (sp?) from that inane TV programme - anyone else remember it?), although from what the IDG story says, the new/old head honcho (PeopleSoft founder and chairman, Dave Duffield) is even less likely to be receptive to Oracles overtures than Craig Conway was. Oh well, the saga continues, what?

And thus ends todays missive.

If anyone who has a moment to spare could oblige, and send up a short request for rain, or perhaps, do a rain dance or two, that would be lovely.

Johannesburg is turning into a dust bowl of mammoth proportions, and the rain keeps threatening but not arriving. *sigh* Heres hoping that todays cloud cover actually delivers on its promises!

Have a good one!
